What You’ll Do

As a Creative Director at Madwell, you’ll be responsible for helping to extract smart work across disciplines. Think of a film director and how they bring together experts from wildly different fields to create something beautiful. That’s you. You’ll work closely with your creative teams day to day, providing constructive and actionable direction, troubleshooting and vetting the fidelity of the work with strategy and comms, and interfacing with clients to synthesize feedback into clear next steps with clear deadlines. You will lead the ship; and together with your AMs and PMs, you’ll maintain a close understanding of resourcing, process, and the health of the account, maintaining a can-do spirit along the way. 

You will manage anywhere from 1 - 5 accounts, depending on size, and at times be involved in new business inclusive of pitches, writing proposals, and doing the occasional chemistry check with potential new clients. You will likely manage ACDs, although you may not work with them on your accounts. You’ll report directly into our GCD. This role is based in our Brooklyn, New York office, but will remain remote until December 2021.

Specifically you’ll be:

  • Guiding cross-disciplinary teams toward the best possible work through sound, clear direction
  • Providing constructive, actionable feedback to all members of the team, regardless of primary discipline
  • Synthesizing the work of creative, strategy, media, and more
  • Establishing warm, confident client relationships and build trust with the client team
  • Helping translate client feedback into clear deliverables/action items associated with clear dates often with Accounts and/or Production
  • Providing creative leadership on existing business and new business pitches
  • Managing and resolving creative conflict internally and with the client
  • Developing and refining the processes necessary to methodically address creative challenges of varying shapes and sizes
  • Mentoring junior team members, helping them grow in their career, and giving them the guidance and confidence to lead projects
  • Delegating work/priorities to your ACDs as needed; it is your business to actively eliminate bottlenecks 

Our Must-Haves

  • An entrepreneurial heart and a desire to jump onto any problem, solve it, then get on with things
  • Experience in creating advertising campaigns across multiple channels, be it a singular stunt, a campaign, or an entire communications strategy for a brand
  • Fluency across mediums; able to think and create in a medium-agnostic way
  • Superior strategic judgment
  • Excellent communication skills; must be comfortable representing the work to clients in all mediums and engaging with clients to a C-suite level
  • Business acumen and a willingness to incorporate that knowledge into the work
  • Adaptable, proactive approach to problem solving
  • Superior delegation skills
  • Phenomenal work ethic 
  • Empathy for your internal team, the client, and the client’s consumers
  • Comfort dealing with complex critical feedback in a way that allows you to maintain decorum and professionalism...maybe even crack a joke
  • Seriously, you’ll need to tell jokes
  • Ability to inspire, motivate, cultivate, and clarify
