Creative Director - Copy

Who We Are

We’re Madwell, a full-service creative agency headquartered in sunny Bushwick, Brooklyn with sister offices in Denver, Hong Kong, and your living room. Get to know us at

Who You Are

You’re a positive and empathetic do-er who enjoys making sense of the madness, and then helping share that clarity with your teams and partners, internally and externally. You live for the thrill of turning good into great into never-been-done, and bringing it to life in its most stellar form. While creative excellence is what drives you, so does common sense and the good of the team. That’s why you remain positive and understanding in the face of our always-slightly-nutty industry!

What You’ll Do

As a Madwell Creative Director, you’ll harness the “Director” part of the role to bring out the best creative. Just as a video director keeps track of the greater vision on set, you bring different parts of the team together like Voltron to ensure creative greatness is achieved. And as one of the captains of the ship, you’ll ensure that your crew is growing on the journey, managing teams up so that they may learn from you and grow steadily on their career path.

You’ll work closely with your creative teams day to day, providing constructive and actionable direction to the creative team, troubleshoot and vet the fidelity of the work, and interface with clients to synthesize feedback into action. Together with your Account and Production partners, you’ll maintain a close understanding of resourcing, process, and the health of the account, maintaining a can-do spirit along the way.

You will help manage one of Madwell’s largest and creatively bravest accounts, along with anywhere from 1 - 4 other accounts, and at times be involved in new business. You may manage other incoming ACDs. You’ll report directly into our ECD. This role is based in our Denver, Colorado office, but will remain remote until June 2021.

Specifically you’ll be:

  • Guiding cross-disciplinary teams toward the best possible work through sound, clear direction
  • Providing constructive, actionable feedback to all members of the team, regardless of primary discipline
  • Synthesizing the work of creative, strategy, media, and more
  • Establishing warm, confident client relationships and build trust with the client team (aka you need to be cool talking to clients).
  • Helping translate creative client feedback into clear next steps often with Accounts and/or Production
  • Providing creative leadership on existing business and new business pitches
  • Managing and resolving creative conflict internally and with the client
  • Developing and refining the processes necessary to methodically address creative challenges of varying shapes and sizes
  • Mentoring junior team members, helping them grow in their career, and giving them the guidance and confidence to lead projects.

Our Must-Haves

  • Experience in creating advertising campaigns across multiple channels, be it a singular stunt, a campaign, or an entire communications strategy for a brand
  • Experience developing campaigns and/or cohesive marketing pushes
  • Fluency across mediums; able to think and create in a medium-agnostic way
  • Superior strategic judgment
  • Excellent communication skills; must be comfortable representing the work to clients in all mediums and engaging with clients to a C-suite level
  • Business acumen and a willingness to incorporate that knowledge into the work
  • Adaptable, proactive approach to problem solving
  • Phenomenal work ethic
  • Empathy for your internal team, the client, and the client’s consumers
  • Comfort dealing with complex critical feedback in a way that allows you to maintain decorum and professionalism...maybe even crack a joke
  • Seriously, you’ll need to tell jokes
  • Ability to inspire, motivate, cultivate, and clarify

What We Offer

  • Competitive medical, dental, and vision benefits, including a subscription to One Medical
  • Generous vacation policy
  • Retirement plan with matching
  • Performance-based bonuses
  • 12 weeks paid parental leave as a proud member of Pledge Parental Leave
  • Commuter benefits

Voluntary Self-Identification of Disability
Voluntary Self-Identification of Disability Form CC-305
OMB Control Number 1250-0005
Expires 5/31/2023
Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor required by law to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We are also required to measure our progress toward having at least 7% of our workforce be individuals with disabilities. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had a disability. Because a person may become disabled at any time, we ask all of our employees to update their information at least every five years.

Identifying yourself as an individual with a disability is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer will be maintained confidentially and not be seen by selecting officials or anyone else involved in making personnel decisions. Completing the form will not negatively impact you in any way, regardless of whether you have self-identified in the past. For more information about this form or the equal employment obligations of federal contractors under Section 503 of the Rehabilitation Act, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at
